The room was large with a spacious bathroom. With air conditioning, TV and fridge the facilities are better than many 3 star hotels. Although we didn't use the pool area it looked great and the sun terrace garden with tables and loungers was excellent.
Although the room was perfectly clean the paintwork in the bathroom ceiling and one wall was peeling off. Also the double room was in fact a room with two single beds pushed together but this is often the case I've noticed with Spanish hostels/hotels.

Having a home in Menorca which we'd rented out to friends, I found myself in the position of having for find a nice hotel for me and my 2 young children. Usually we are in the Mahon area, so I thought Mercadal would be a good position to explore the other side of the island. Hostal Jeni was fine for 3 nights but other guests were less than considerate in the corridors at night, and I didn't find the staff particularly welcoming. The pool is very nice and the terrace too offers a nice spot for sunbathing, but it's certainly not the kind of hotel that you'd want to stay at all day.

A such great way to end my weekend. Great and beautiful hotel located in a lovely area adjacent to the restaurant which had a very good "Menu de dia" for 10 euros including wine and water, beaches and other towns and the port of Fornells. Stunning location to Cala sa Torreta. Excellent breakfast with many eating options and featherlite croissants, kind employees. Excellent service and fantastic value. Covered pool to relax in too.

Authentic Menorcan feel. Good positioning in the middle of the island. Newly furnished room. Satisfying breakfast. Great AC equipment. Plenty of parking space. Unexpected mini-fridge inside the room. TV set. Friendly staff.
Everything great.

A location in a beautiful area; a good place to explore the island by bike; a kindful, helpful and humourous staff - all this for a good price

The hotel is centrally located on the island, making it easy to explore different areas. the pool and terrace are lovely places to relax. the staff are friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was disappointing with limited options, and some of the rooms lacked privacy with glass doors and windows in the bathroom.

Good base for exploring Menorca - we don't really like resorts created for tourists so Es Mercadal was perfect. Happened to stay during the fiesta de San Marti so it was buzzing and very atmospheric, think it must usually be really sleepy and charming village. There are a few bars to choose from, a couple of excellent bakeries and some good restaurants. We had a particularly good meal at Tast. Room was clean and practical, big enough with a good shower. Had satellite tv and kettle, no luxuries but didn't miss anything. Our view was of the pool - not great but we were mostly out and about so didn't bother us. Two singles pushed together rather than a proper double bed bit that seems normal for Spain. Plenty of parking nearby. Friendly helpful staff. Didn't use pool because the beaches were so amazing but looked clean and inviting. Had breakfast twice, good continental selection but we preferred pa amb tomate with fresh Orange and coffee at the cafe down the road. Would recommend for people who want a good base but will mostly be out and about doing their own thing.
If I had to criticise it would be the lack of proper double bed, in spite of having specifically asked for one and them apparently existing in the hotel.

The location was excellent and very laid back. Es Mercedal is very Menorcan and peaceful with good access to beaches although a car would be necessary.

The hotel is a great value for money, with prices that are more than reasonable. The attention to detail is evident throughout the hotel, from the modern and comfortable rooms to the friendly and accommodating staff. The location in the center of Menorca is perfect for exploring the whole island, with easy access to the bus stop and a variety of beaches just a short drive away. The breakfast included in our rate was a pleasant surprise, with a large selection and delicious featherlite croissants.
All was perfect.

The staff and the food were really good, we were made very welcome. Local atmosphere excellent. Really good value for money.
Rooms could have done with a coat of paint, but were kept very clean, so not a problem.

The staff were helpful and the room quiet which is rare in Spain in August. There was a peaceful garden where guests could sunbathe and relax (in summer).
The swimming pool has been divided up into small sections and the staff's children monopolised the only available swimming space. Better to head for the beach.
